Wanderlust 2010s

Wanderlusts 1940 - 1949

World War 2 had a huge impact on the Club. 46 men and one female member served overseas, and letters to and from “our boys” abroad feature prominently in Wanderlust. Five ATC members died in wartime service.

At home, wartime restrictions curtailed activities, but Sunday tramps, long weekends away, summer and Easter camping trips, and Friday night social gatherings continued. The “girls” were the backbone of the Club in this period.

After the war, activities resumed in earnest. Trips away were reinstated, social activities extended, a Junior Section formed, the two huts upgraded and in a mammoth effort a third, Memorial Hut on Ruapehu, was built and officially opened in Easter 1950.
